Speaker Series – Jaclyn Robidoux: Maine Sea Grant Seaweed Specialist

Spring is seaweed season in Maine! As kelp farms gear up for harvest across the state, we’ll celebrate this local food and learn stories of Maine seaweeds with Jaclyn Robidoux, marine extension associate and seaweed specialist with Maine Sea Grant. Maine is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and versatile seaweeds – about 200 species – which play a key role in our coastal ecosystems and as a sustainable resource from the sea for Maine communities. In this seminar, we’ll learn how to find and identify local species, explore how seaweed is farmed and harvested on working waterfronts across the state, and dive into the simple and surprising ways you can use seaweeds in your everyday life.
